I am a textile designer originally from Miami, currently living and working in NYC with a decade of experience in the fashion industry.
After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009 with a degree in textile design, I moved to NYC. I specialized in silkscreening while in school, but also really loved the act of making fabric. With this unique understanding of both constructing fabric and printing on it, I have a full-scope understanding of the print design process.
My design process always begins with a sort of analytical deep-dive of a concept– its history, its associations, its cultural significance. I then, through an exploration of materials and physical techniques, derive a pattern identity. To me, fabric and print are inextricably linked and they have specific needs and applications. Therefore, the actual production of prints is also very intrinsic to my design process. I can see how things will execute, or what specifically needs to be designed to reach a desired result.
Print design is more than keeping up with a trend-it is a tool to evoke mood, emotion, and brand identity. It is a very delicate and almost intangible element that can make or break a product. I love its complexity and believe that only through the creative process can you really come up with something new and unique.
When not making prints, I enjoy what most old ladies at heart enjoy: knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and baking, antiquing, and repairing old lamps.
